Equine Assisted Practice

Equine Assisted Practice (EAP) is a therapeutic or personal development approach that involves structured interaction between humans and equines (horses)  to support emotional, psychological, and somatic well-being.

Rather than riding, most EAP focuses on groundwork—observing, being with, and interacting with horses. Horses, as highly sensitive non human animals, respond honestly and immediately to human nervous system states, body language, and emotional congruence.

This helps provides clients with real-time feedback that can support:

  • emotional awareness and regulation

  • trauma recovery and nervous system regulation

  • development of boundaries, trust, and relational skills

  • increased self-awareness and embodied presence

Practitioners facilitate experiences that help clients notice their internal state, patterns, and relational dynamics, working along side the horse and in nature, a co-regulating, responsive partners in the process.
